Mitt f\u00f8rste m\u00f8te med Humvee var p\u00e5 en Nato-\u00f8velse i Ofoten p\u00e5 slutten av 1980-tallet. Jeg var f\u00f8rste bil i en kolonne av M6&#8217;er lastet med ammunisjons-attrapper p\u00e5 vei til fronten da vi ble stormet av en kanadisk tropp. Via en vei-lomme greidde vi \u00e5 snu alle bilene i rekordfart f\u00f8r de n\u00e5dde oss, og reddet dermed mannskap og materiell fra \u00e5 havne i fiendens hender. Mens jeg sto og dirigerte bilene bak egne linjer, la jeg merke til et fremmed kj\u00f8ret\u00f8y som n\u00e6rmet seg fort og n\u00e6rmest lydl\u00f8st gjennom skogen. Dette var mitt f\u00f8rste m\u00f8te med Humvee. Jeg glemmer aldri hvor grasi\u00f8st den tok seg frem i h\u00f8y fart over skogslyngen. Understellet danset over lyng og mose, mens alt som var over, holdt seg st\u00f8dig. Jeg har kj\u00f8rt det meste som g\u00e5r p\u00e5 hjul i Forsvaret, men aldri opplevd noe lignende.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nVar det et nytt angrep? Nei, bare amerikanske observat\u00f8rer som \u00f8nsket \u00e5 f\u00f8lge oss p\u00e5 avstand etter trefningen ute p\u00e5 veien. Jeg tenkte \u00abvi hadde alle v\u00e6rt d\u00f8de\u00bb, men en stridsdommer fortalte meg senere at alle overlevde. I krig er det livsviktig \u00e5 holde hjulene i gang. Humvee<\/h3>\n<p>En Humvee har bakkeklaring p\u00e5 40 cm og kan vade i 81 cm vann, slaps og s\u00f8le. Drivverket og vitale komponenter er lagt inn i en enorm kardangtunnel, beskyttet fra terrenget under. Radiatoren ligger h\u00f8yt og skr\u00e5tt bakover over motoren. Det er kun 4 seter, med mulighet til \u00e5 frakte en s\u00e5ret person mellom setene. Firehjulstrekket er fantastisk. Den trekker seg opp med kun ett hjul mot marken. Dekktrykket kan enkelt justeres fra instrumentpanelet &#8211; som i en James Bond film. Hvis man kj\u00f8rer seg fast i l\u00f8s \u00f8rkensand, kan man f\u00e5 grep ved \u00e5 tappe ut luft og fylle i luft igjen etter \u00e5 ha kommet videre.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nHumvee er et kallenavn. Den milit\u00e6re betegnelsen er <em>HMMWV &#8211; High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle<\/em>. Det er spesielt \u00abhigh mobility\u00bb som fascinerer meg. Den sivile utgaven av Humvee, Hummer H1, er laget for \u00e5 tilby samme allsidighet uten milit\u00e6rbilens ulemper. Ting som Nato-instrumentering, stridslys, frav\u00e6r av innvendig polstring og lydisolasjon, er ikke s\u00e6rlig attraktivt i en sivil bil. Dessuten vil man neppe f\u00e5 med seg sin bedre halvdel i bilen, heller. Den f\u00f8rste sivile Hummer H1 ble visstnok levert til <em>Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/em>. Og kanskje er det takket v\u00e6re ham at <em>AM General<\/em> startet \u00e5 produsere sivile utgaver? Motorene var GM&#8217;s 6.2 V8 diesel, som fra 1994 ble oppgradert til 6.5 V8 med eller uten turbo. 4-trinns automat med overdrive. Fra h\u00f8sten 2004 ble det produsert en serie oppgraderte Hummer H1 med 6.6 Duramax V8 Turbo Diesel. Siste produksjons\u00e5r for de sivile bilene ble 2006, men produksjonen av milit\u00e6rbilene fortsatte.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nJeg vet ikke om <em>AM General<\/em> sto fritt i \u00e5 velge motorer da de fikk bestilling p\u00e5 biler til det amerikanske forsvaret tidlig p\u00e5 1980-tallet. Men tenk om de hadde kunnet velge motorer fra Cummins (Ford) i stedet for GM&#8217;s usjarmerende, raklende motorer? Diesel har aldri v\u00e6rt s\u00e6rlig popul\u00e6rt hos private, amerikanske truck-kj\u00f8pere. Det er forbeholdt rene nyttekj\u00f8ret\u00f8y &#8211; noe Humvee i sin tid ogs\u00e5 var. Dessuten er diesel universal-drivstoffet for operative milit\u00e6re kj\u00f8ret\u00f8y.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nMan kan vel si at GM&#8217;s dieselmotorer legger en demper p\u00e5 kj\u00f8regleden i Hummer H1 &#8211; i hvert fall etter dagens standard. Men i den sivile modellen er motorene ganske godt lyddempet og med 4-trinns automat holder de tritt med motorveitrafikk. Et stort antall biler er allerede solgt til oppkj\u00f8pere og kan ventes videresolgt som originale eller konvertert til sivil bruk. Biler med milit\u00e6r fortid har ofte canvas i tak og d\u00f8rer. GM hadde sikret seg rettighetene til varemerket &laquo;Hummer&raquo;. <em>AM General<\/em> hadde f\u00e5tt i oppdrag \u00e5 bygge <em>Hummer H2<\/em> for GM p\u00e5 GM\u2019s truck-plattform som ble delt med Silverado og Suburban. Den nye modellen ble utformet for \u00e5 <em>se ut<\/em> som en Hummer, men uten de funksjonelle egenskapene som gjorde Hummer spesiell. For det f\u00f8rste veier den over 4300 kg med den store batteripakken, og lengden p\u00e5 5,5 meter kan skape problemer i norske parkeringshus. Prisene begynner fra $96.550 for biler med 2WD. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Cyber Hummer?<\/h3>\n<p>Mer interessant er <em>Cyber Hummer<\/em>. Den selges til samme pris som GM\u2019s \u00aboffisielle\u00bb Hummer EV, men har ingen ting til felles med GM. <em>NAEV &#8211; North American EV<\/em> er et kanadisk selskap som bygger elektriske biler basert p\u00e5 resirkulerte Tesla 3 batterier og utrangerte milit\u00e6re Humvee-biler. De benytter en helt ny ramme med plass til batterier, med et &laquo;old school&raquo; Humvee karosseri over. Interi\u00f8ret er uten den enorme kardangtunnelen \u2013 og heller ikke samme fremkommelighet som Humvee og Hummer H1, skj\u00f8nt bakkeklaringen er 38 cm. Uten kardangtunnel er det plass til 6 personer og et dashboard som best\u00e5r av en midtstilt Tesla 3-lignende skjerm. Batteriene, ladesystemet og drivverket skal ellers v\u00e6re kompatibelt med Tesla Model 3 med dual motor AWD. De ytre m\u00e5lene er de samme som den opprinnelige Humvee. Utstrakt bruk av aluminium gj\u00f8r at vekten er relativt lav, \u00abkun\u00bb 2041 kg. Oppgitt rekkevidde er 480 km og kan akselerere fra 0-100 p\u00e5 3,5 sekunder.
