Det kan ikke utelukkes. Toyotas siste prototype er en Corolla Cross med 1,6 liters 3-sylindret GR turbomotor &#8211; og den g\u00e5r p\u00e5 hydrogen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">HICE vs. FCEV<\/h3>\n<p>Motoren i Toyotas prototype er en bensinmotor som er bygget om til \u00e5 g\u00e5 p\u00e5 hydrogen. \u00c9n av fordelene med HICE &#8211; <em>Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine<\/em> &#8211; er at den bygger p\u00e5 velpr\u00f8vd teknologi. Det appellerer til bilf\u00f8rere som foretrekker forbrenningsmotorer fremfor elektriske motorer. Skiftende motorlyd og mulighet til \u00e5 velge utveksling skaper kj\u00f8reglede. Dessuten slipper man ekstra vekt og problemer knyttet til h\u00f8yspenningsbatterier.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nHydrogenbilene man kan kj\u00f8pe i dag, er av typen FCEV &#8211; <em>Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle<\/em> &#8211; som er basert p\u00e5 en brenselcelle for \u00e5 omdanne hydrogengass til <em>elektrisitet<\/em>. Drivverket bakenfor brenselcellen er 100% elektrisk med et h\u00f8yspenningsbatteri. Man kan klare seg med et ganske lite batteri ettersom brenselcellen tilf\u00f8rer str\u00f8m hele tiden. Hydrogenbilen <em>Toyota Mirai<\/em> er et eksempel p\u00e5 FCEV. Kj\u00f8reopplevelsen er som i en elektrisk bil.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nHydrogenbiler med <em>brenselcelle<\/em> har flere fordeler sammenlignet med H2 forbrenningsmotor. F\u00f8rst og fremst fordi de regnes som nullutslipps-kj\u00f8ret\u00f8y. Forbrenningsmotorer, derimot, avgir NOx fra forbrenningsprosessen &#8211; ogs\u00e5 de som g\u00e5r p\u00e5 hydrogen. Til tross for at mye av utslippet kan filtreres bort, kan ikke bilene karakteriseres som nullutslipps-kj\u00f8ret\u00f8y. En annet negativ faktor er utnyttelsesgraden av drivstoffet. Grovt sett, kan biler med brenselcelle oppn\u00e5 40-60%, mens hydrogenbiler med forbrenningsmotor kun oppn\u00e5r 20-30%. Til sammenligning, kan en batteridrevet elektrisk bil oppn\u00e5 70-80% effektiv utnyttelse. Alle biler med elektrisk motor kan gjenvinne energi gjennom regenerativ bremsing. De utvikler derfor flere alternativer, blant annet drivlinjer basert p\u00e5 hydrogen. De har deltatt i japanske <em>Super Taikyu Endurance Races<\/em> for 2024 med en Toyota Corolla hvor forbrenningsmotoren er bygget om til \u00e5 g\u00e5 p\u00e5 flytende hydrogen. Erfaringene fra racing har bidratt til \u00e5 \u00f8ke rekkevidde og ytelser, samt \u00e5 kunne hurtigfylle drivstoff. Toyotas siste prototype &#8211; en <em>Corolla Cross<\/em> med H2 forbrenningsmotor, har plass til 5 mennesker og bagasje. Den er ett steg n\u00e6rmere en HICE-modell som kan kj\u00f8res p\u00e5 ordin\u00e6re veier.
