Den ble lansert i 1965 som en fremtidsbil, ganske annerledes enn datidens Forder og Opel&#8217;er, for \u00e5 si det s\u00e5nn. Litt for s\u00e6r for enkelte, men stilig for andre. Den typiske eier var familiemann, funksjon\u00e6r mellom 30-50 og over middels interessert i \u00e5 kj\u00f8re bil. Renaults nye, store fammiliebil skulle arve flere egenskaper fra den lille modellen. Med sine 3,66 meter kunne neppe Renault 4 karakteriseres som noen <em>familiebil<\/em>. Dessuten hadde den ikke motorkraften man forventet. Likevel var komforten og kj\u00f8reegenskapene i Renault 4 bedre enn man skulle tro. Renault 16 fikk ogs\u00e5 torsjonsfj\u00e6rer med lang fj\u00e6ringsvei.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nRenault 16 var heldigvis bedre motorisert enn Renault 4. Standardmodellen med 1,6 liter hadde 67 HK. TS hadde 83 HK, og den senere TX fikk hele 93 HK og 5-trinns girkasse. Torsjonsfj\u00e6rer p\u00e5 alle hjul var ikke bare komfortabelt, men var ogs\u00e5 plassbesparende. Hele fj\u00e6ringen ligger vannrett under kupeen nesten uten \u00e5 stjele innvendig plass.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nSkulle man pr\u00f8vekj\u00f8rt bilen i dag, ville man merket rattgiret og at den kanskje er noe tyngre p\u00e5 rattet enn dagens biler &#8211; en typisk ulempe med alle forhjulsdrevne biler, da mye av motor og girkasse ofte ligger foran forakslingen. Renault hadde likevel gjort mye for \u00e5 avhjelpe dette. Den kompakte aluminiumsmotoren var trukket langt inn mot kupeen, og girkassa vendt forover.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote><p>Den ble regnet som en stor familiebil for sin tid. Hvor stor var den egentlig?
