Ford og GM hadde jo i mange \u00e5r produsert enkle og usofistikerte biler for massene. Hvorfor kunne ikke British Leyland gj\u00f8re det samme?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">M\u00e5tte bare fotografere disse!<\/h3>\n<p>Bilene p\u00e5 bildene er godt synlige fra veien. De har sett bedre dager, men er ikke hvilke som helst biler. De er engelske. En privat samling kanskje? Jeg gjenkjenner lett Morris Marina 1,8 TC Coup\u00e9. Jeg likte disse da de var nye, men kan ikke huske sist jeg s\u00e5 en &#8211; med skilter!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Skulle skape penger &#8211; ikke bilhistorie<\/h3>\n<p>Morris Marina er ikke noe man ser hver dag. Jeg vet ikke hvor mange som finnes igjen i Norge. Jeg er sikker p\u00e5 at jeg har sett en lysegul 4 d\u00f8rer sedan tidligere i \u00e5r, men husker ikke om det var <em>her<\/em>, eller i England. If\u00f8lge nettstedet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howmanyleft.co.uk\/?q=morris+marina&#038;commit=Search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>hovmanyleft.co.uk<\/strong><\/a> var det bare 405 registrerte biler igjen i hele Storbritannia ved inngangen til \u00e5ret, &#8211; samt noen flere biler uten skilter. P\u00e5 ett tidspunkt var Marina den tredje mest solgte bilen p\u00e5 de britiske \u00f8yene &#8211; en bil som ble utviklet for \u00e5 bli en storselger.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nDet er kanskje en av \u00e5rsakene til at s\u00e5 f\u00e5 elsker Marina? Selskapet hadde bilkonstrukt\u00f8rer som <em>Alec Issigonis<\/em>, mannen som skapte Mini, 1100\/1300 og Maxi. Dette var biler som skapte bilhistorie &#8211; men \u00e5penbart ikke nok penger. De r\u00f8de tallene hadde lyst lenge. I 1968 ble British Leyland (BMLC) dannet som en sammensl\u00e5ing av BMC og Leyland Motors, noe som medf\u00f8rte at nesten alle britiske bilmerker p\u00e5 den tiden havnet under samme paraply. Ledelsen hadde bestemt seg for \u00e5 utvikle en modell som skulle bli &laquo;cash cow&raquo; for det nye selskapet. Det var <em>d\u00e9t<\/em> som fikk meg til \u00e5 stanse opp langs veien. Cortina mk2 var enkle, usofistikerte, praktiske, vakre, engelske biler. Det er tydelig at Haynes har brukt Cortina mk2 som forbilde. Det finnes mange likhetstrekk mellom Cortina mk2 og Marina b\u00e5de i st\u00f8rrelse og design. Man kunne ha tatt Marina for \u00e5 v\u00e6re Cortina&#8217;s etterf\u00f8lger. Noen hevder at det var lille Morris Minor 1000 &#8211; andre den langt st\u00f8rre Morris Oxford. Marina-modellen ble satt i produksjon p\u00e5 Morris&#8217; Cowley-anlegg og erstattet faktisk Morris Minor p\u00e5 samleb\u00e5ndet &#8211; klassikeren som hadde v\u00e6rt i produksjon siden 1948. Av den grunn var plattformen til Marina basert p\u00e5 Morris Minor, men strukket ut 10 tommer i lengden. Skulle man \u00f8kt mer, m\u00e5tte produksjonsapparatet bygges helt om. Husk! Marina skulle v\u00e6re billig \u00e5 produsere.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nBritisk bilpresse var raske til \u00e5 poengtere slektskapet til Morris Minor, neppe ment i positiv sammenheng. Jeg vet ikke hvordan markedet reagerte p\u00e5 dette, men det la i hvert fall en demper p\u00e5 <em>min<\/em> lyst til \u00e5 velge Morris Marina. Jeg byttet ut Cortina&#8217;en min for en Mazda 818, &#8211; en bil som for \u00f8vrig var mer lik Marina enn jeg ante. <\/p>\n<hr \/>\n\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_53012\" \u00e5 spare utviklingskostnader, hadde utviklerne hos British Leyland benyttet s\u00e5 mange komponenter som mulig fra \u00f8vrige modeller i det nye, sammensl\u00e5tte selskapet. \u00c5rv\u00e5kne biljournalister listet opp alle komponentene &#8211; stort og sm\u00e5tt. Marina 1,3 fikk BMC&#8217;s velkjente A-series 1275-motor. Marina 1,8 fikk 1800-motoren som var utviklet p\u00e5 B-serien &#8211; samme motorserie som blant annet satt i Morris Oxford. 1,8-motoren med to forgassere var den samme som satt i MGB, noe eiere av Marina 1,8 TC (Twin Carburator) kunne skryte av.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00c5 lansere nye budsjettmodeller basert p\u00e5 komponenter fra andre modeller i samme konsern, var noe Ford og GM hadde gjort i mange \u00e5r. I stedet for \u00e5 sette s\u00f8kelys p\u00e5 sofistikerte egenskaper p\u00e5 understell, kj\u00f8reegenskaper og drivverk, fikk man kundene til \u00e5 sikle etter plysjseter, vinyltak og kromlister. Det som forundrer meg, er hvorfor Ford, GM og Chrysler (Rootes) kom unna med det, mens British Leyland fikk n\u00e5del\u00f8s kritikk for \u00e5 gj\u00f8re det samme? Motor Trend skrev om Morris Marina med undertittelen <em>British Cloth, American Cut<\/em>. De mente at Morris Marina hadde hoppet p\u00e5 et amerikansk konsept, til forskjell fra tidlige modeller. class=\"tebh2\">Modellhistorikk<\/h3>\n<p>Morris Marina ble lansert som 1971-modell med 3 motoralternativer og 3 utstyrsgrader. F\u00f8rst som 2 d\u00f8rer coup\u00e9 og 4 d\u00f8rer sedan, senere som 5 d\u00f8rer Estate stasjonsvogn, varebil og pickup. I 1976 fikk Marina en facelift. Den fikk ny grill &#8211; og mistet dermed ett av modellens fine s\u00e6rpreg. Den fikk ogs\u00e5 nytt dashboard st\u00f8pt i ett plaststykke. I 1980 ble Marina etterfulgt av en &laquo;ny&raquo; modell, kalt <em>Ital<\/em>. Man kunne si mye negativt om Morris Marina, men det var en vakker bil. Det kunne man dessverre ikke si om Ital, den siste modellen som skulle b\u00e6re Morris-navnet. Ital beholdt 1275-motoren i basis-versjonen, og fikk to nye motorer i modellprogrammet. Den var ikke vakker, men ga mye bil for pengene.
