Firmaet holdt til i Coventry, og hadde en historie helt tilbake til 1865 da de startet opp med produksjon av sykler. Denne produksjonen ble supplert med produksjon av motorsykler. Rundt 1921 kom den f\u00f8rste bilen i produksjon. Det var en liten bil med betegnelsen \u201dTriumph Light Car\u201d. Flere modeller fulgte etter denne, hovedsakelig sm\u00e5 biler. Men i 1929 ble tidene sv\u00e6rt d\u00e5rlige med det resultat at produksjonen av biler nesten stoppet opp. P\u00e5 1930 tallet da tidene ble bedre, ble flere nye modeller lansert. N\u00e5 var det mer sporty biler med st\u00f8rre motorer fabrikken konsentrerte seg om. Krigen satte stopper for bilproduksjonen i 1939.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Standard Triumph<\/h3>\n<p>Etter krigen ble selskapet solgt til Standard Motor Company som brukte navnet Standard Triumph p\u00e5 bilene. En rekke spennende Triumph sportsmodeller kom p\u00e5 markedet, mens de vanlige personbilene ble produsert med merkenavnet \u201dStandard\u201d. I 1959 kom endelig en ny Triumph. Det var en sporty familiebil som fikk navnet \u201dTriumph Herald\u201d. Med denne modellen som utgangepunkt ble det utviklet flere sportsmodeller.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Basert p\u00e5 Spitfire<\/h3>\n<p>En av modellene var en lekker sportsmodell som var en videreutvikling av den mindre modellen &laquo;Spitfire&raquo;. Den var helt lukket og hadde en stor d\u00f8r bak. Utseendet minnet litt om Jaguar E og modellen fikk fort klengenavnet &laquo;fattigmanns E-modell&raquo;. L\u00f8sningen ga den god bagasjeplass og den kunne leveres med et lite baksete med plass for 2 barn. En motor med 6 sylindre s\u00f8rget for gode fartsressurser. Den hadde h\u00f8yere toppfart enn konkurrenten MG-B som var et godt salgsargument. Alt l\u00e5 til rette for en suksess. Men kj\u00f8reegenskapene var ikke de beste p\u00e5 den f\u00f8rste varianten. For \u00e5 spare penger brukte Triumph tekniske l\u00f8sninger fra den rimelige personbilmodellen &laquo;Herald&raquo;. Det holdt ikke m\u00e5l og den fikk et d\u00e5rlig rykte p\u00e5 grunn av d\u00e5rlige kj\u00f8reegenskaper. En endret versjon med langt bedre kj\u00f8reegenskaper kom i 1969 men salget kom aldri opp p\u00e5 det niv\u00e5et Triumph hadde h\u00e5pet p\u00e5 og i 1972 var det slutt.<\/p>\n<h3
