De br\u00e5ket, luktet f\u00e6lt og forsvant i en sky av eksos n\u00e5r de kj\u00f8rte ut i trafikken.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<h3>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Havnet bak jernteppet<\/h3>\n<p>Bilinteresserte med sv\u00e6rt god hukommelse husker kanskje bilmerket Wartburg fra 50- og 60- tallet. De var popul\u00e6re, spesielt siden det var et av de f\u00e5 bilmerkene vanlige mennesker kunne f\u00e5 kj\u00f8pe. Biler produsert i \u00d8st-Europa gikk stort sett utenom kravet om kj\u00f8petillatelse fra norske myndigheter, en ordning som varte frem til 1960. Av den grunn var dette et bilmerke med sv\u00e6rt lav status blant bilfolket. De f\u00e6rreste husket at Wartburg var et av verdens eldste bilmerker. Faktisk var fabrikken den tredje som startet bilproduksjon i Tyskland etter Daimler og Benz. Etter den andre verdenskrig havnet fabrikken bak \u201dJernteppet\u201d i DDR. I 1950 kom den f\u00f8rste nye bilen etter krigen og nyskapningen fikk navnet IFA. Nytt modellskifte kom i 1955 og da ble navnet Wartburg tatt i bruk.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote><p>I 1965 var det p\u00e5 tide \u00e5 lansere en helt ny modell som avl\u00f8ser. Den nye modellen fikk helt nytt design og navnet ble Wartburg 353.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>&nbsp;<\/h5>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Wartburg 353<\/h3>\n<p>God plass og relativt moderne design var salgsargumentene. Den nye modellen var ogs\u00e5 mer solid enn tidligere modeller fra fabrikken. P\u00e5 hjemmemarkedene i \u00d8st-Europa ble den en stor suksess. I andre land som England og Danmark solgte den relativt bra. Et relativt h\u00f8yt st\u00f8yniv\u00e5 b\u00e5de innvendig og utvendig begrenset populariteten p\u00e5 de fleste markedene. Teknisk var den sterkt forbedret sammenliknet med sine forgjengere. Blant annet hadde den f\u00e5tt uavhengig fj\u00e6ring p\u00e5 bakhjulene. P\u00e5 hjemmemarkedet ble den ogs\u00e5 levert som yrkesbil og spesialmodeller til offentlige myndigheter. B\u00e5de ambulanser og politibiler rullet ut av fabrikken. 353 ble produsert helt frem 1991 i forskjellige varianter.
