Eierne av den nye fabrikken hadde tidligere produsert m\u00f8bler. Under krigen ble fabrikken ogs\u00e5 involvert i produksjon av deler til flyskrog, i f\u00f8rste rekke trerammer. Da freden kom i 1945 stoppet flyproduksjonen og man m\u00e5tte se seg om etter alternativ virksomhet for \u00e5 drive videre. L\u00f8sningen ble \u00e5 starte produksjon av campingvogner. Dette var en god l\u00f8sning. N\u00e5 kunne fabrikken utnytte b\u00e5de egen kompetanse og bruke restlageret av deler fra krigsproduksjonen. De f\u00f8rste modellene som kom p\u00e5 markedet var moderne og str\u00f8mlinjeformet mens konkurrentene hadde modeller med kantet og gammeldags design. Moderne design og h\u00f8y kvalitet n\u00e5r det gjaldt materialer og utf\u00f8relse ble kjennemerket for de f\u00f8rste modellene. I 1950 hadde fabrikken et stort produktspekter som dekket alle deler av markedet. Sansynligvis var Berkeley verdens st\u00f8rste produsent av campingvogner p\u00e5 den tiden. 1955 begynte man eksperimentering med glassfiberforsterket plast og presenterte den f\u00f8rste modellen laget i dette materialet i 1956. Med den nye kompetansen var ikke veien til bilproduksjon lang.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Berkeley kom p\u00e5 markedet med en liten sportsvogn i 1956 i en tid hvor flere liknende biler s\u00e5 dagens lys.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nLette konstruksjoner og sv\u00e6rt sm\u00e5 motorer ga fart og underholdning. De f\u00f8rste modellene var utstyrt med en motor p\u00e5 bare 322 ccm som leverte 15 hester. Senere kom det modeller med en litt st\u00f8rre motor og flere hestekrefter. Selv om bilen var liten var den teknisk avansert. Den var utstyrt med forhjulstrekk og tverrstilt motor. Karosseri i fiberglass med avstivninger i aluminium s\u00f8rget for stabilitet. Uavhengig fj\u00e6ring p\u00e5 alle hjul og lavt tyngdepunkt s\u00f8rget for at denne lille bilen virkelig hadde gode kj\u00f8reegenskaper. Liten og kjapp \u2013 bilen var som skapt for konkurransekj\u00f8ring. Flere av dem som konkurrerte \u00f8nsket mer fart. Spesielt kundene i USA var ivrige og de mente ogs\u00e5 at den lille bilen fortjente en st\u00f8rre motor. Den kom og ga bilen noe bedre toppfart og akselerasjon.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">En st\u00f8rre motor \u00e5pnet for nye muligheter<\/h3>\n<p>Fabrikken lanserte en ny fireseters variant med litt st\u00f8rre karosseri. N\u00e5 var den blitt en familiesportsvogn med 4 sitteplasser. Men den nye modellen ble ingen suksess og det ble bare solgt noen f\u00e5 biler. Ledelsen hos Berkeley forsto at kundene \u00f8nsket sportsvogner, ikke familiebiler med flere sitteplasser. L\u00f8sningen var \u00e5 videreutvikle den sportsbilen man allerede hadde i produksjon. En ny modell med litt endret utseende kom i 1959. Men det viktigste var at den fikk en st\u00f8rre motor med flere hestekrefter. Resultatet ble h\u00f8yere toppfart (150 kmt) og bedre akselerasjon. Tanken var n\u00e5 \u00e5 introdusere en helt ny modell med st\u00f8rre motor i 1961. Den nye modellen skulle f\u00e5 samme motor som ble brukt i Ford Anglia. Konstruksjonen var helt ny med et tradisjonelt st\u00e5lkarosseri.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nMen markedet for campingvogner kollapset i 1960 og fabrikken ble hard rammet \u00f8konomisk.
