I perioden 1991 til 1997 ble det solgt ufattelige 4,13 millioner Astra&#8217;er. Ingen annen Opel-modell har v\u00e6rt mer popul\u00e6r &#8211; noensinne. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Den omtales som Astra F til tross for at den er f\u00f8rste modell med Astra-navnet. Modellserien begynte under navnet &laquo;Kadett&raquo; s\u00e5 langt tilbake som p\u00e5 30-tallet. Modellbetegnelsene med bokstaver begynte ikke f\u00f8r p\u00e5 60-tallet da Kadett A dukket opp i 1962. Navnet &laquo;Kadett&raquo; ble beholdt frem til 1991 da Opel valgte \u00e5 erstatte utg\u00e5ende Kadett E med Astra F. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Historien om Astra begynte med Kadett D<\/h3>\n<p>Opel Kadett D dukket opp som 1980-modell. Det var den f\u00f8rste Kadetten med tverstilt motor med forhjulstrekk og 3\/5 d\u00f8rer kombi som standard. Dette var n\u00f8dvendig for at Opel skulle kunne konkurrere med Volkswagen Golf. Etter det har Golf og Kadett\/Astra figurert i toppen av salgslistene. Da Golf II kom som 1984-modell, ble Kadett E lansert. Likedant i 1991 da Golf III dukket opp, kom nye Astra F ut p\u00e5 markedet bare et par m\u00e5neder senere. Opel Kadett E var ikke d\u00e5rligere biler enn Golf II. De var forskjellige p\u00e5 flere omr\u00e5der, men likevel sv\u00e6rt jevnbyrdige. Det samme kan man si om Astra F i forhold til Golf III. Aldri har Golf og Astra v\u00e6rt mer jevnbyrdige. Likevel beholdt Golf overtaket p\u00e5 salgslistene.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Sikrere<\/h3>\n<p>En av Astras store fordeler i forhold til forgjengeren Kadett E og andre samtidige konkurrenter, var h\u00f8y passiv sikkerhet. Fra f\u00f8rste stund kom Astra med beltestrammere som standard. Fra 1993 kunne man velge airbag p\u00e5 f\u00f8rersiden som ekstrautstyr. Fra 1994 kom airbag begge sider foran som standard. Ogs\u00e5 nakkeputer i baksetet var standard. Setene hadde en skinne som hindret folk fra \u00e5 skli under beltene ved kollisjon. For 30 \u00e5r siden var st\u00e5lbjelker i d\u00f8rene en stor sikkerhetsfordel. Astra viste at biler i kompaktklassen dugde som fullverdige familiebiler. Ulempene var at en del av interi\u00f8ret kunne f\u00f8les som pappmasj\u00e9 og at utvendig plastikk ble misfarget etter kort tid. Opel Astra skulle v\u00e6re enda  mer gjenvinnbar. Heldigvis f\u00f8ltes interi\u00f8ret mer solid enn i forgjengeren. Det var pr\u00f8vekj\u00f8ring av en ny stasjonsvogn med 1,6 litersmotor. Jeg likte godt f\u00f8lelsen av en solid bil &#8211; en slags sikkerhetsf\u00f8lelse. Den virket tyngre enn Kadetten (E) jeg hadde eid tidligere. Lydbildet virket hardt ved akselerasjon, og drivverket ga vibrasjoner inn i kupeen. Sammenlignet med Kadett E og Nissan Sunny &#8211; som jeg kj\u00f8rte i p\u00e5 det tidspunktet &#8211; virket styringen i Astra&#8217;en livl\u00f8s. Pluss for servostyring. Min konklusjon var at dette ikke var noe kj\u00f8ret\u00f8y for &laquo;keen drivers&raquo;. Likevel bestilte vi en svart metallic Astra 1,6 sedan med &laquo;Young&raquo; utstyrspakke. Den besto av manuelt soltak, oppgradert setetrekk, gr\u00f8nne striper og egne hjulkapsler. Med nytt hus og familiefor\u00f8kelse p\u00e5 vei, ble plass og sikkerhet utslagsgivende. Dessuten var det en meget vakker bil. Vakrere enn Golf III.
