De f\u00f8rste bilene ble produsert i 1904 i Coventry. I starten ble det produsert flere modeller med forskjellige motorst\u00f8rrelser. I 1911 kom en helt ny modell. Dette var en mindre bil med h\u00f8y kvalitet. Den var en direkte konkurrent til Morris og Singer. og den kom i flere varianter og var i produksjon til 1915. Frem til slutten av 1 verdenskrig ble det produsert krigsmateriell og derfor kom det ikke noen nye personbiler f\u00f8r i 1919. Salget var bra i perioden etter 1 verdenskrig, men markedet ble mye t\u00f8ffere p\u00e5 slutten av 1920 tallet. Fabrikken kom i \u00f8konomiske vanskeligheter og ny ledelse og refinansiering kom p\u00e5 plass. Standard produserte en rekke modeller frem til 1940. Flere av disse var sportsbiler og mer sportslige familiebiler. Da bilproduksjonen startet opp etter krigen i 1945 var det kun 3 modeller som ble produsert. Dette var modeller basert p\u00e5 modeller konstruert f\u00f8r krigen. F\u00f8rst i 1947 ble f\u00f8rste nye modellen presentert. Bilen fikk navnet Standard Vanguard som ble fabrikkens viktigste modell etter krigen og frem til 1963 da all produksjon opph\u00f8rte.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Vanguard-familien<\/h3>\n<p>Vanguard var en romslig og velutstyrt familiebil og klarte seg godt i konkurransen med de andre engelske familiebilene. Den kom f\u00f8rst som ren personbil men en stasjonsvogn kom p\u00e5 markedet ganske fort. En varebil og en pick-up kompletterte modelltilbudet. Spesielt varebilen ble godt kjent rundt i landet fordi Norsk Bygdekino brukte denne modellen til \u00e5 frakte utstyr mellom de forskjellige filmforestillingene landet rundt. Standard Vanguard fikk en skikkelig oppgradering i 1953 med endringer av karosseriet. Den runde bakparten ble nyttet ut med en skikkelig utbygget bakpart som ga et mer moderne utseende. Standard endret litt p\u00e5 designet hele tiden.
