Da f\u00e5r du en terrengbil av den gamle sorten, bygd p\u00e5 solid ramme med brukbar landeveiskomfort og plass til 7. Hyundai tok over produksjonen i 1991 og produserte modellen som Hyundai Galloper. Fra 1999 ble den importert til Norge. Da hadde den f\u00e5tt trendy skjermbreddere og plastpaneler rund baut, samt ny front. Hyundai presenterte modellen som sin egen, men de fleste dro kjensel p\u00e5 Pajero&#8217;en fra 80-tallet. Det gjorde ikke noe. Tvert i mot. Galloper var som skapt for det norske markedet &#8211; i lang utgave med turbodiesel og gr\u00f8nne skilter.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Eplet falt ikke langt fra stammen<\/h3>\n<p>Under skallet er ikke Gallopers etterf\u00f8lger, Terracan, s\u00e6rlig forskjellig fra forgjengeren. Forstillingen er bygget opp med doble A-armer, spiralfj\u00e6rer og torsjonsstag som takler lang fj\u00e6ringsvei. Bak er det stiv bakaksel og spiralfj\u00e6rer. Samme konsept. Manuelt innsjaltbart 4-hjulstrekk og lavgir. Turbodieselmotoren er en rekkefirer p\u00e5 2,9 liter med gode ytelser. Opprinnelig 150 HK og et solid dreiemoment p\u00e5 333 Nm fra 2000 omdreininger. Fra modell\u00e5ret 2005 oppgradert til 163 HK og dreiemomentet til 345 Nm fra 1750 omdreininger. En klar forbedring i forhold til Gallopers 2,5-motor med 99 turbohester. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Bongo og Big-Up bruker samme motor<\/h3>\n<p>Problemet med Terracans motor er at den ikke er s\u00e6rlig utbredt i Europa. Motorserien &laquo;J3&raquo; sitter i modeller som <em>KIA Carnival<\/em> og varebilseriene <em>Hyundai Porter<\/em> og <em>KIA K-serie<\/em>, med bisarre modellnavn som &laquo;Bongo&raquo; og &laquo;Big-up&raquo;. De ligner p\u00e5 &laquo;HiAce&raquo; og er kun solgt i Asia. Av disse er (bare) 26 oppf\u00f8rt i kj\u00f8ret\u00f8yregisteret som avregistrert eller skrotet. Terracan ble solgt i 6 \u00e5r &#8211; mellom 2002-2007 &#8211; mens Galloper kun ble solgt i 3. Allikevel ble det registrert flere Galloper&#8217;e enn Terracan, s\u00e5 det er tydelig at Terracan ikke greidde \u00e5 f\u00f8lge opp suksessen etter Galloper. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Erfaringer med Terracan<\/h3>\n<p>Det ser ut som om Terracan&#8217;ene har greidd seg godt i daglig bruk. Ett problem som g\u00e5r igjen, er havarert dieselpumpe (h\u00f8ytrykkspumpa). N\u00e5r pumpa skj\u00e6rer seg, har flere erfart f\u00f8lgeskader p\u00e5 innspr\u00f8ytningsdyser, men det er ikke meldt om videre motorskader. Noen mener at drivstoffilteret er synderen &#8211; manglende vedlikehold, feil type eller montering. Andre mener at feilen sitter inne i pumpa. <\/p>\n<p>Et annet problem som flere eiere har meldt om, er ulyd i bakre differensial. Dette er jo ikke unormalt p\u00e5 terrengkj\u00f8ret\u00f8yer. R\u00e5det er da \u00e5 bytte til annen olje. Man <em>vil<\/em> oppleve at terrengbilen vandrer mer p\u00e5 veien og krever hyppigere korrigeringer med rattet &#8211; spesielt hvis man kj\u00f8rer p\u00e5 terrengvennlige dekk. Man <em>vil<\/em> oppleve at fj\u00e6ringen virker stiv og begynner \u00e5 hoppe over vaskebrett &#8211; eller at bilen oppleves som stumpete over telehiv og ujevnheter. Pajero og Galloper var overraskende myke i forhold til tilsvarende terrengbiler. Det myke understellet gir f\u00f8lelse av komfort &#8211; en tanke mot amerikanske terrengbiler som Chevrolet Blazer. Da Terracan ble testet som ny, kommenterte flere at de syntes at bilen var for myk &#8211; at den svaiet vel mye p\u00e5 veien. Det er ogs\u00e5 noen som mener at automatkassa ofte bommer p\u00e5 girvalg s\u00e5nn at den m\u00e5 skifte flere ganger f\u00f8r den treffer. Den gr\u00f8nne bilen ble avskiltet i h\u00f8st og st\u00e5r etterlatt p\u00e5 et brakkomr\u00e5de. Jeg trodde den ble brukt av hjeml\u00f8se. Det er en 2005-modell &#8211; med facelift. Bilen passer fint for helgeturer, ferieturer og praktisk daglige \u00e6rende &#8211; men neppe som daglig pendlerbil. <\/p>\n<p>Sjekk at ramma ikke er rustskadet. Eventuelle rustskader m\u00e5 vurderes i forhold til forventet levetid. Terracan kommer nemlig aldri til \u00e5 ha noen verdi ut over resterende bruksverdi. Den blir ingen klassiker. Jeg nevner dette fordi <em>forgjengerne<\/em> Galloper og Pajero allerede <em>har<\/em> klassikerstatus. Biler som var coole som nye, blir klassikere som gamle. Let&#8217;s face it! Glasshuset er for h\u00f8yt i forhold til fronten. Overhenget bak er for stort &#8211; ogs\u00e5 sett i forhold til fronten. Hellingen p\u00e5 fronten og frontruten harmonerer ikke.
