Mens Europa fikk den nye modellen i 1977, fortsatte alts\u00e5 salget av den f\u00f8rste modellen ett \u00e5r til i USA. Foto: Einar Karoliussen.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Da Audi kom til USA<\/h3>\n<p>Det kunne ikke ha v\u00e6rt noen lett oppgave \u00e5 introdusere et nytt, europeisk bilmerke i USA. Det er vanskelig \u00e5 forestille seg i dag, n\u00e5 som Audi virkelig har befestet seg som et premium-merke over hele verden. T\u00f8ysete annonser fortalte at Audi 100 hadde like stor takh\u00f8yde som Rolls-Royce, forhjulssystem som Cadillac Eldorado og like stort bagasjerom som Lincoln Continental. Det var ingen hemmelighet at Audi egentlig var middelm\u00e5dig motorisert, ikke spesielt volumin\u00f8s og ikke spesielt komfortabel, &#8211; ting som gjennomsnittlige amerikanske bilkj\u00f8pere \u00f8nsket seg. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Det var likevel noe spesielt ved Audi 100.<\/h3>\n<p>Hva var det som fikk ekteparet fra Montgomery, New-York, til \u00e5 bytte ut sin 1970 Buick Skylark med en ny 1977 Audi 100 fra Tyskland? Totalprisen for bil med skilter, skatter og avgifter ble 8 300 USD. For samme pris kunne de f\u00e5tt en velutstyrt Buick. Audi&#8217;en var godt utstyrt, den ogs\u00e5, Den ble levert med servostyring, aircondition, automatgir, &#8211; pluss Deluxe AM\/FM radio, Window Vent Shades og Heavy Duty Undercoat. Foto: Einar Karoliussen.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Porsche + Audi<\/h3>\n<p>Forestill deg Audi&#8217;en ved siden av &#8211; la oss si &#8211; en Buick Regal fra samme tid. Audi&#8217;en ser ikke like prangende ut som Buick&#8217;en. De to bilene sender helt forskjellige signaler &#8211; amerikansk og europeisk formspr\u00e5k. Noen ville kanskje tilf\u00f8yd noe om klasseforskjell. Audi&#8217;ens image ble i hvert fall godt hjulpet av at den ble solgt gjennom lokale Porsche-forhandlere. At Volkswagen sto som eiere av Audi, skadet sikkert heller ikke. Av alle reklameinnlegg i l\u00f8pet av 70-\u00e5rene, var kanskje annonsene som knyttet Audi til Folkevognbobla og Porsche mest vellykket. I ettertid er dette blitt enda mer tydelig. Linjef\u00f8ringen i Audi 100 C1 st\u00e5r nemlig i stil med b\u00e5de klassiske Porscher og VW-bobler.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Slektskap til Volkswagen<\/h3>\n<p>Audi 100 ble utviklet under prosjektnavnet F104, som egentlig tilh\u00f8rer DKW\/AutoUnion. Men i realiteten ble prosjektet drevet av Volkswagen &#8211; som eide DKW\/AutoUnion. Modellen dukket opp i 1968 og fikk en facelift i 1974. Da ble blant annet frontlysene og kromlisten som omgir fronten, endret. I USA fikk den i tillegg store st\u00f8tfangere for \u00e5 tilfredsstille kravene til The Federal Bumper Standard. I 1977 ble bumper-standarden ytterligere skjerpet. St\u00f8tfangere skulle n\u00e5 t\u00e5le sammenst\u00f8t mot stillest\u00e5ende objekt i 5-9 mph. Da fikk Audi 100 p\u00e5montert enorme st\u00f8tfangerhorn. Resultatet ble ikke s\u00e5 ille. Det er tilstanden bilen befinner seg i. Den ser rett og slett ny ut. N\u00e5r s\u00e5 man sist en &laquo;ny&raquo; Audi 100 C1? En bil fra 1977 som s\u00e5 vidt har rundet 30 000 miles? I f\u00f8lge tidligere salgsopplysninger ble bilen kun benyttet til kirken og supermarkedet.
