Solen skinner mellom skyene. Campingstoler og picknic-kurver st\u00e5r mellom bilrekkene. Mange har funnet frem kl\u00e6r som matcher anledningen. Det er amerikansk som gjelder. Stil og kultur. Flere av dem er helt str\u00f8kne &#8211; kanskje bedre enn de var som nye. Jeg g\u00e5r rundt og titter. Noen er &laquo;gjengangere&raquo;, like fine som alltid, &#8211; mens andre er nye &#8211; i hvert fall for meg. Jeg g\u00e5r f\u00f8rst inn i Mopar Norway&#8217;s avdeling. En klassisk Dodge RAM st\u00e5r ved vimpelen. Ikke alt fra Dodge og Chrysler har v\u00e6rt like bra opp gjennom \u00e5rene. Men de holder fremdeles stand som klassikere. Kj\u00f8per du en nyere Dodge RAM pickup med 5,7 liters Hemi V8-motor, f\u00e5r du en klassiker. Jeg merker meg en nyere Dodge Challenger parkert ved siden av to femtitallsklassikere, &#8211; Chrysler New Yorker og Dodge Custom Royal Lancer. Sammen med de andre klassikerne ser jeg hvor vellykket retrodesignet til Challenger 3 faktisk er. I R\/T versjon med 5,7 liters Hemi og 372 hester m\u00e5 man legge igjen mange avgiftskroner til staten. Avanti fikk et kort liv ettersom Studebaker ble tvunget til \u00e5 stenge portene. I ettertid kj\u00f8pte noen formene til Avanti fra konkursboet og fortsatte \u00e5 produsere bilen i sm\u00e5 serier til langt ut p\u00e5 2000-tallet. Glassfiberkarrosseri p\u00e5 ramme egner seg godt til s\u00e5nn produksjon. Bilene fra Avanti Corporation dukker opp i visse fora, men jeg har aldri sett noen i virkeligheten, &#8211; ikke engang i USA. Finner du en, kan du alts\u00e5 kj\u00f8pe deg en &laquo;ny&raquo; klassiker. Kompakte i formen, lette og komplett motorisert med V8&#8217;ere. Jeg forundrer meg over hvor enkle, nesten primitive, tidlige T-bird&#8217;er er, sammenlignet med moderne biler. Jeg synes T-bird&#8217;er som avbildet, virker sportslige. Men i realiteten handler det om stor motor plassert i en enkel bil som var rimelig for sin tid. S\u00e5 rimelig &#8211; s\u00e5 god og s\u00e5 enkel at det ble solgt mange av dem. Jeg tar bilde. Den er fotogen der den st\u00e5r p\u00e5 toppen av Ekeberg Camping. Jeg smiler n\u00e5r jeg tenker p\u00e5 hva jeg alltid h\u00f8rte som guttunge: <em>&laquo;Amerikanske biler er helt ubrukelige for det er s\u00e5 lite plass i bagasjerommet&raquo;.<\/em> New Yorker&#8217;en rommer i alle fall godt med campingutstyr selv om det vel befinner seg et reservehjul over bakakslingen et sted. Det gjelder ikke minst i bagasjerommet. Drar du p\u00e5 treff med en flott amerikaner, er det ikke bare motorrommet som b\u00f8r v\u00e6re tipp topp. Et str\u00f8kent bagasjerom bidrar til \u00e5 skape et godt inntrykk. En tidsriktig picknic-kurv er prikken over i&#8217;en. P\u00e5 femti- og sekstitallet, da amerikanerne dro p\u00e5 picknic, \u00e5pnet man gjerne b\u00e5de trunk og panser. Jeg vet ikke hvorfor man \u00e5pnet panseret. Var det kj\u00f8ling? Var det \u00e5 vise forbipasserende hva man hadde under der, tro?
