Det tredje st\u00f8rste amerikanske bilkonsernet har i hele etterkrigstiden kj\u00f8pt opp andre bilmerker, mange av dem p\u00e5 konkursens rand.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>De har ogs\u00e5 v\u00e6rt p\u00e5 handletur i Europa. Der kj\u00f8pte de opp britiske Rootes, franske Matra-Simca og en spansk lastebilfabrikk. Til \u00e5 begynne med fikk merkene beholde sine opprinnelige navn, s\u00e5nn som britiske Sunbeam og franske Simca. Men ett bilmerke ble lansert under Chrysler-navnet, &#8211; bare Chrysler. \u00c5rsaken skal visstnok v\u00e6re at merket ble utviklet som et joint venture mellom franske og britiske Chrysler, samt moderselskapet. Problemet med navnet Chrysler, er at alle forventet et navn &#8211; en modellbetegnelse.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Chrysler what?<\/h3>\n<p>Den nye modellen ble bare kalt Chrysler 160, Chrysler 180 og Chrysler 2 litres, avhengig av motor. Men samtidig ble det solgt amerikanske Chrysler&#8217;e, Dodge&#8217;r og Plymouth&#8217;er i Europa med fengende modellnavn som Challenger, Polara  og Fury. &laquo;Bare Chrysler&raquo; ble bilen som totalt manglet identitet. Den var tegnet i USA og hadde flere likhetstrekk med amerikanske biler fra samme konsern, for eksempel Dodge Polara. Men den europeiske Chrysler&#8217;n var mindre og hadde etter amerikanske forhold sm\u00e5 motorer. I Norge ble det brukt mye penger p\u00e5 helsides annonser, men bilen var knapt \u00e5 se p\u00e5 veien. Ogs\u00e5 i Storbritannia, Frankrike og Spania solgte bilen d\u00e5rlig. Det ble ikke bedre da motorene fikk rykte p\u00e5 seg for \u00e5 v\u00e6re lite slitesterke. Etter \u00e5 ha blitt produsert ved produksjonsanlegget i Poissy, Frankrike (n\u00e5 PSA), ble produksjonen flyttet til Chryslers gamle lastebilfabrikk i Madrid. Den ankom en bilsamling av spesielle kj\u00f8ret\u00f8yer for bilentusiaster. 2-literen med 3-trinns automat var knapt h\u00f8rbar da den gled langs paradeveien og parkerte ved havnen. Anglo-amerikansk design og fransk\/spansk produksjon. Jeg synes bilen s\u00e5 veldig flott ut i hvitt med sort vinyltopp og gule lykter, og interessen fra det franske publikummet var stor.
