Den n\u00e6rmeste er en Super 6, eller &laquo;Hudson-limpan&raquo; , som svenskene kaller den.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Visste du at det finnes en egen bilklubb for amerikanske etterkrigsmerker som tapte kampen mot de 3 store &#8211; GM, Ford og Chrysler? <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Eight Amcars Club (EAC) har som form\u00e5l \u00e5 redde s\u00e5 mange som mulig av disse merkene. Det er Packard, Kaiser, Studebaker, DeSoto, Henry J, Willys, Hudson og Nash. Ut over femti\u00e5rene gikk det hett for seg p\u00e5 det amerikanske bilmarkedet. Selv om folk kj\u00f8pte biler som aldri f\u00f8r, var det stor kamp om kundene. For \u00e5 fange kundene, m\u00e5tte man komme opp med en ny modell hvert \u00e5r som b\u00e5de skulle overg\u00e5 forrige modell og konkurrentene. Lengere, bredere, sterkere motor, mer utstyr, mer krom, og s\u00e5 videre &#8211; til lavest mulig pris. Konkurransen gjorde det vanskelig for alle produsentene \u00e5 henge med i svingene. Det paradoksale var at det var ikke de <em>beste<\/em> bilene som vant. En bil jeg har sett p\u00e5 flere bilder. Den tilh\u00f8rte en av onklene til moren min. Etter hva jeg har greidd \u00e5 finne ut, m\u00e5 det v\u00e6re en 4-d\u00f8rs Kaiser, kanskje en 1951-modell. Bildet er tatt p\u00e5 Nes i Romerike. Den rullet i samme omr\u00e5de som EAC holder til i.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAmcar-folket snakker lett om r\u00f8tter n\u00e5r de skal forsvare sin hobby. Kaiser&#8217;n i mitt familiealbum vitner om det. Men i jakten p\u00e5 en amcar er det lett \u00e5 ta feil av hvilke modeller som representerer de <em>ekte<\/em> r\u00f8ttene. Jeg er selv f\u00f8dt p\u00e5 50-tallet og husker godt hvilke biler som rullet p\u00e5 veiene da. Jeg kan fortelle at det var veldig f\u00e5 Cadillac&#8217;er og Lincolns med continental kit bakp\u00e5. Bilene til EAC-medlemmene representerer norske r\u00f8tter i langt st\u00f8rre grad enn hva man ser av nyimporterte amcar-biler. Jeg tok en tur til EAC for \u00e5 se en med egne \u00f8yne. De hadde en tofarget Kaiser Manhattan i utstillingen, og en urestaurert 4-d\u00f8rs Kaiser ute. Kaiser Manhattan m\u00e5 ha v\u00e6rt et ordentlig dollarglis da den rullet rundt p\u00e5 landeveiene p\u00e5 Romerike. Men n\u00e5r jeg ser n\u00e6rmere etter, er den ganske enkelt utstyrt, og i f\u00f8lge spesifikasjonene har den en &#8211; for tiden &#8211; relativt ordin\u00e6r sideventilert sekser. Det var en amerikaner for norske forhold. Kaiser-gruppen hadde ogs\u00e5 en mindre bil, kalt Henry J etter en av grunnleggerne. Du finner Henry J hos EAC, &#8211; en i utstillingen, mens en annen er under restaurering. Jeg synes de ser geniale ut i forhold til at de er produsert p\u00e5 f\u00f8rste halvdel av 50-tallet. De hadde 4-sylindrede motorer og karosserier med god utnyttelse av den innvendige plassen. Men Henry J var nok minst 25 \u00e5r forut for sin tid. Trenden ut over 50-tallet var ikke n\u00f8kternhet, &#8211; det var <em>maksimalitet<\/em>. Jeg tror de som ikke hadde r\u00e5d til en ny fullsizer, heller kj\u00f8pte en brukt en, fremfor en ny Henry J.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nDet som forundret meg mest, var \u00e5 vite at det rullet Henry J p\u00e5 norske veier.
