Av alle modellene, er Z4 den som har v\u00e6rt lengst i produksjon i 3 forskjellige generasjoner. Det handler om BMW-teknologi pakket inn i et klassisk roadster-konsept. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Da BMW Z4 kom ut til forhandlerne h\u00f8sten 2002, h\u00f8stet den ikke bare lovord. Selv om modellen var designet som en roadster &#8211; lav, smekker, med en lang front og korte overheng &#8211; var ikke alle begeistret for linjef\u00f8ringen. BMW kalte de dramatiske linjene langs sidene for &laquo;flame surfacing&raquo;.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Alle gode ting er fire<\/h3>\n<p>Det er produsert 4 forskjellige Z-modeller. Den f\u00f8rste av dem, BMW Z1, fikk nedfellbare d\u00f8rer og kunststoff-karosseri. En eksperimentell,  spesiell og sjelden bil. Etterf\u00f8lgeren, Z3, er en enklere modell som appellerte til mange. En suksess med nesten 300.000 produserte biler. Verdt \u00e5 nevne er ogs\u00e5 Z8 som er en eksklusiv, kostbar og sjelden roadster i retro-stil. Den fjerde modellen, Z4, er st\u00f8rre enn suksessmodellen Z3. Med et stivere chassis, bedre bakhjulsoppheng og BMW&#8217;s rekkeseksere er ogs\u00e5 den blitt en suksess. I dag produsereres 3. generasjon av Z4. Alle bilene ble produsert av BMW USA i to serier. Serie 1 fra 2002 (som \u00e5rsmodell 2003) til og med 2005. I USA fikk alle bilene 6-sylindrede motorer, mens Europa ogs\u00e5 fikk et 4-sylindret alternativ med 2.0i. I 2005 lanserte BMW sin nye 3-serien E90. Blant nyhetene var nye 6-sylindrede motorer. Ogs\u00e5 BMW Z4 &#8211; som jo var basert p\u00e5 forrige 3-serie &#8211; fikk nye motorer. Sammenlignet med den utg\u00e5ende motorserien (M54) ga de nye motorene (N52) flere krefter. \u00d8kt bruk av magnesium og aluminium gjorde dem ogs\u00e5 lettere &#8211; og enda bedre egnet for en roadster som Z4. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Facelift<\/h3>\n<p>I tillegg til nye 6-sylindrede motorer, besto facelift&#8217;en av Z4 for \u00e5r 2006 av visuelle endringer i fronten, nye baklys og forbedringer i interi\u00f8ret. BMW hadde ogs\u00e5 forbedret tidligere problemer med sin elektro-mekaniske styreservo som gjorde at styringen kunne oppfattes som ustabil. Nye 6-trinns girkasser og forbedringer i understellet var ogs\u00e5 med.
