De to modellene delte samme plattform og hadde mange fellestrekk.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Et fors\u00f8k p\u00e5 \u00e5 skape en mellomklassebil<\/h3>\n<p>Renault 10 ble lansert i 1965 som en litt st\u00f8rre og litt flottere modell enn den kompakte Renault 8. Renault \u00f8nsket \u00e5 fylle gapet mellom Renault 8 og Renault 16. De hadde allerede begynt \u00e5 designe en helt ny modell &#8211; Renault 12 &#8211; men det ville ta flere \u00e5r f\u00f8r den ble produksjonsklar. En l\u00f8sning ble da \u00e5 lage en forlenget og mer p\u00e5kostet variant av kompaktbilen Renault 8. Renault 10 skulle dekke tomrommet i modellprogrammet inntil Renault 12 kunne sendes ut til forhandlerne.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nDe to modellene har samme akselavstand og samme rom i kup\u00e9en. Basis-drivverket i Renault 10 er det samme som i Renault 8 Major med 1100-motoren. Renault 10 med dette drivverket ble da ogs\u00e5 solgt som <em>Renault 10 Major<\/em>. Det som gj\u00f8r at Renault 10 kan karakteriseres som en mellomklassebil, er at lengden er \u00f8kt 20 cm ved st\u00f8rre overhengene foran og bak. Det ga mer bagasjerom. I tillegg fikk Renault 10 et litt mer p\u00e5kostet interi\u00f8r, og et front- og bakparti som skilte den fra Renault 8.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Modellhistorikk<\/h3>\n<p>Renault 10 ble produsert fra h\u00f8sten 1965 til midt p\u00e5 \u00e5r 1971. Fra \u00e5rsmodell 1970 kunne man f\u00e5 Renault 10 med samme 1300 motor som satt i Renault 12. Da produksjonen av Renault 10 opph\u00f8rte i 1971, kunne ettersp\u00f8rselen etter mellomklassebiler dekkes ved Renault 12. En facelift kom allerede etter ett \u00e5r. Fra modell\u00e5ret 1967 fikk bilene rektangul\u00e6re frontlys i stedet for runde. Ogs\u00e5 baklysene fikk ny utforming og det ble gjort oppgraderinger av interi\u00f8ret. De dukker opp p\u00e5 alle biltreff, mens Renault 10 er langt mer sjelden \u00e5 se. Det kan virke som om den har havnet i skyggen av Renault 8. Sett i ettertid kan man trekke frem at Renault 8 var det opprinnelige designet &#8211; originalen. Begge modeller var aktive i samtidens motorsport, mens Renault 8 tok flest seire innen rally og baneracing.
