De to modellene var som tvillingmodeller \u00e5 regne.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Volkswagen tok fullt eierskap over Audi i 1966. I 1972 ble den helt nye Audi 80 B1 lansert. Den ga Audi en helt ny identitet. \u00c5ret etter ble Volkswagen Passat &#8211; ogs\u00e5 kalt B1 &#8211; lansert. Begge modellene var utformet av Giorgetto Giugiaro og alle kunne se likheten. Passat fremsto som en coup\u00e9-utgave av Audi 80. Bortsett fra det var de to modellene identiske. Likevel var det tydelig at Volkswagen-konsernet \u00f8nsket \u00e5 holde modellene adskilte &#8211; et \u00f8nske bilpressen fulgte. Etter hvert ble Audi solgt gjennom Volkswagen-forhandlere.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Et nytt ansikt<\/h3>\n<p>Passat-modellen ga Volkswagen et helt nytt ansikt &#8211; eller identitet &#8211; p\u00e5 samme m\u00e5te som Audi 80 hadde gjort for Audi \u00e5ret f\u00f8r. Inntil 1973 besto Volkswagen av to modellserier, Beetle (bobla) og 400-serien &#8211; begge med luftavkj\u00f8lte motorer. Den eneste modellen som bar visuell likhet med Passat var K70 &#8211; designet av <em>Claus Luthe<\/em>, sjefsdesigner hos NSU. Kombicoup\u00e9-l\u00f8sning med bakluke i full h\u00f8yde kom f\u00f8rst som 1975 modell. Da kunne man ogs\u00e5 f\u00e5 Passat som 5-d\u00f8rs stasjonsvogn. Ut i fra bilder kan det se ut som om biler fra modell\u00e5r 1976 fikk st\u00f8tfangerhj\u00f8rner av svart gummi<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nPassat fikk en facelift for modell\u00e5ret 1978. Visuelle endringer var blant annet nye st\u00f8tfangere og ny front hvor blinklysene ble flyttet fra st\u00f8tfangeren til wrap-around lys p\u00e5 yttersiden av frontlyktene.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nUtstyrsgradene var L, LS, GL og TS (Top Sport). Bilene i basisutgave (L eller 1.3) fikk enkle runde frontlykter. Mer p\u00e5kostede utstyrsvarianter fikk rektangul\u00e6re frontlykter, mens TS fikk doble runde lykter.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Motorisering<\/h3>\n<p>Motorene besto fra begynnelsen av en 1.3 liters motor p\u00e5 55 hk og en 1.5 liters motor med enten 75 eller 85 hk. Fra model\u00e5r 1976 ble 1.5 liters motorene erstattet av 1.6 liters motorer med samme antall hestekrefter. Fra 1978 kunne man ogs\u00e5 f\u00e5 Passat med 1.5 liters dieselmotor med 50 hk.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_87808\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87808\" style=\"width:
