Fiat fant ikke noen modellbetegnelse for prosjekt X1\/9. Dermed ble modellen bare lansert med sitt interne prosjektnavn X1\/9. Men den kunne ha blitt kalt Fiat 128 Spider.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Bertone<\/h3>\n<p>Prosjektet startet hos Bertone. Tanken var \u00e5 bygge <em>Fiat 128 Spider<\/em>. De hadde kommet frem til et karosseri som ga h\u00f8y styrke for \u00e5 kunne oppfylle kommende amerikanske safety standards. 1300-motoren ble hentet fra Fiat 128. Den ble plassert tverrstilt og midtstilt med gearkasse i transaksel l\u00f8sning. Denne l\u00f8sningen ga plass til bagasje b\u00e5de bak motoren og foran kupeen. Karosseriene ble produsert hos Bertone og sendt til Fiat for videre montering der. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Modellhistorikk<\/h3>\n<p>Produksjonen startet i 1972. I 1978 fikk bilene 1500-motor hentet fra Fiats nye Ritmo-serie og fronten fikk en forh\u00f8yning. Videre ble det gjort endringer av interi\u00f8ret. I 1982 &#8211; etter 10 \u00e5r i produksjon &#8211; \u00f8nsket Fiat \u00e5 avslutte prosjektet. Bertone tok da over produksjonen og holdt modellen i live frem til 1989\/1990.
