Det var 1602, 1802 og 2002 som gjorde at BMW kunne leve opp til slagordet &laquo;The Ultimate Driving Machine&raquo;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Gjorde suksess i USA<\/h3>\n<p><em>Max Hoffman<\/em> &#8211; mange\u00e5rig import\u00f8r av europeiske luksusbiler til USA &#8211; r\u00e5det BMW til \u00e5 lage en mindre 2-d\u00f8rs variant av &laquo;Neue Klasse&raquo;. Han mente at en s\u00e5nn bil kunne gj\u00f8re suksess i USA. Og det gjorde den. Modellen kom i 1966 og ble produsert frem til og med 1975. Modellen gikk igjennom flere endringer som ikke er s\u00e5 lett \u00e5 oppdage ved f\u00f8rste \u00f8yekast. Ett kjennetegn ved bilene er en list av aluminium som g\u00e5r rundt hele bilen p\u00e5 h\u00f8yde like under d\u00f8rh\u00e5ndtakene, over grillen og rundt bagasjelokket. Fra 1971 fikk alle modeller ogs\u00e5 en gummilist mellom st\u00f8tfangerne &#8211; hvor bakre st\u00f8tfanger n\u00e5 krummet seg rundt til bakre hjulbuer. En facelift kom ogs\u00e5 i 1973 for \u00e5rsmodell 1974 hvor grillen ble utformet i matt svart plastikk i stedet for metall, og baklysene gikk fra \u00e5 v\u00e6re runde til rektangul\u00e6re. Den kom i to varianter. 2002 med enkel forgasser p\u00e5 100 hk og &laquo;ti&raquo; med dobbel forgasser og 118 hk. Modellbetegnelsen &laquo;2002ti&raquo; sto for &laquo;Touring International&raquo; &#8211; en modell som var vel tilpasset det amerikanske markedet.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<figure
