Likevel var det store forskjeller. Nye Thunderbird var blitt en betydelig st\u00f8rre bil, med 4 seter, forlenget akselavstand og en ganske rak taklinje som skulle gi takh\u00f8yde i baksetet. I USA ble modellen kalt <em>Square Bird<\/em>. Ford hadde l\u00f8ftet Thunderbird mk2 fra \u00e5 v\u00e6re en enkel, ungdommeligm kompakt 2-seter coup\u00e9 til en premium mellomklasse-bil.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Modellhistorikk<\/h3>\n<p>Thunderbirds 2. generasjon ble produsert som 1958, 1959 og 1960-modell med sm\u00e5 endringer hvert \u00e5r. De st\u00f8rste synlige endringene kom p\u00e5 1960-modellen med blant annet st\u00e5ende ribber i grillen og 6 runde baklys istedet for 4. Tilgjengelige motorer var 452 V8 og 430 V8 &#8211; henholdsvise 5,8 og 7,0 liter.
