Man kan tydelig se at de to versjonene deler samme karosseri, og at endringene best\u00e5r av detaljer. Det mest i\u00f8ynefallende er fronten med ny grill, doble hovedlys hvor panser og framskjermer krummer seg over disse. St\u00f8tfangerme krummer seg rundt til hjulbuene foran og bak. Videre fikk alle modellene en diskret hekkspoiler. Ogs\u00e5 motorene fra Capri II ble videref\u00f8rt til den nye modellen. De var hentet fra Fords europeiske modeller &#8211; de s\u00e5kalte Pinto-motorene som gikk i Taunus &#8211; 1,3 liter, 1,6 liter og 2,0 liter, samt 2,0 V6 og 2,3 V6 fra K\u00f6ln, samt den gjeve 3,0 V6 Essex-motoren. Ford Capri III var en av de siste av sitt slag da den ble produsert fra 1978 til 1986.
