De fleste blir aldri noe mer enn dr\u00f8mmer. Noen dr\u00f8mmebiler er oppn\u00e5elige. Da BMW introduserte sin nye 3-serie i 1975 fremsto den i mine \u00f8yne som en oppn\u00e5elig dr\u00f8mmebil &#8211; en bil som alle kunne kj\u00f8pe hvis de arbeidet hardt og var flinke med pengene.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nNoen m\u00e5neder f\u00f8r introduksjonen av 3-serien hadde BMW lansert BMW 1502 som en budsjett-modell av 02-serien. Den skulle bli produsert parallelt med 3-serien. At BMW fortsatt hadde 02-serien i modellprogrammet, fikk den nye 3-serien til \u00e5 fremst\u00e5 i en klasse over modellen den skulle erstatte. At formspr\u00e5ket var hentet fra den st\u00f8rre 5-serien (E12) bidro ogs\u00e5 til \u00e5 l\u00f8fte modellens image. De f\u00f8rste modellene 316, 318 og 320 hadde 4-sylindrede motorer. Fra \u00e5rsmodell 1978 ble 320 erstattet av en rekkesekser med injection og 323i ble introdusert. Standard girkasse var 4-trinns Getrag eller 3-trinns ZF automat. Senere ble 5-trinns girkasser tilgjengelig som tilleggsutstyr. Alle bilene var utstyrt med tannstangstyring og skivebremser foran. BMW 323i fikk skivebremser bak ogs\u00e5. Videre hadde E21 uavhengig fj\u00e6ring p\u00e5 alle hjul, McPherson foran og svingarmer med spiralfj\u00e6rer bak.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nSom vanlig for tidlige BMW&#8217;er, angir de siste to sifrene i modellbetegnelsen motorst\u00f8rrelse, som for eksempel at &laquo;316&raquo; har en 1.6-liters motor. Men fra 1980 ble ogs\u00e5 316 utstyrt med 1.8-litersmotoren som satt i 318. Nye 318 ble 318i med injection og flere hestekrefter. Biler med 4-sylindrede motorer hadde enkle hovedlys, mens 320i og 323i fikk doble. Midtveis i 1979-modellen kom en facelift med endringer under st\u00f8tfangeren foran, nye elektrisk just\u00e9rbare sidespeil av plast og nytt dashboard. Alle 1979-modeller kunne leveres med nakkest\u00f8tter bak.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">BMW E21 som hobbybil<\/h3>\n<p>Jeg har et inntrykk av at det finnes to typer BMW E21 &#8211; ombygde biler og originale biler med lav km-stand. Biler som er ombygde, kan v\u00e6re risky business hvis man ikke g\u00e5r bilene n\u00f8ye etter i s\u00f8mmene. Det finnes flere originale, rene, uskrudde, &laquo;bestemorkj\u00f8rte&raquo; BMW 316 med lav km-stand. Prisene for bevaringsverdige originalbiler strekker seg fra i underkant av 100 000 kr til 2-300 000 for biler med 6-sylindrede motorer, fargede ruter osv. En detalj det ofte fokuseres p\u00e5 i salgsannonser, er det originale vekt\u00f8ysettet som er innfelt p\u00e5 innsiden av bagasjelokket. Det b\u00f8r v\u00e6re intakt. Som for mange andre veteranbiler, kan det l\u00f8nne seg \u00e5 kj\u00f8pe en bil &#8211; eller objekt &#8211; som er i s\u00e5 god stand som mulig. Da BMW E21 3-serie kom h\u00f8sten 1976, satte BMW i gang med \u00e5 bygge om biler til dav\u00e6rende motorsport-klasse Gruppe 5. Motorene var 2-liter twin-cam 16V 310hk, med et kraftig ombygget karosseri. Hekkspoiler ble tilpasset i Pininfarinas vindtunnel.
