Jeg brukte Golf mk1 (og Jetta mk1) som daglige transportmiddel i over ett \u00e5r &#8211; som leiebiler mens jeg bodde og jobbet i et annet land. Golf 1 kom med en facelift i 1979, og det var de faceliftede modellene jeg fikk stifte bekjentskap med. Et hyggelig bekjentskap f\u00e5r man si. Faceliften innebar nye plastst\u00f8tfangere, endringer i dashbordet og bredere baklys. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Positiv signaleffekt<\/h3>\n<p>Golf 1 i motorveihastighet over et pannekakeflatt landskap med ulende vind krevde en st\u00f8dig h\u00e5nd p\u00e5 rattet. De var sidevindsf\u00f8lsomme og st\u00f8yende p\u00e5 grunn av vindsus, veirumling og motorlyd &#8211; s\u00e5nn st\u00f8y som skaper hodepine. Men jeg likte utseende og inventaret. Ogs\u00e5 p\u00e5 den tiden &#8211; eller <em>s\u00e6rlig<\/em> p\u00e5 den tiden &#8211; sendte man sterke signaler n\u00e5r man kj\u00f8rte Golf.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 Den dannet en egen klasse. GTI ble en betegnelse p\u00e5 h\u00f8yeffektive sm\u00e5biler. Volkswagen Golf GTI fikk 1,6 liters motor med bensin-innspr\u00f8ytning og 110 hk. Fra 1982 fikk den en 1,8 liters motor med 112 hk.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nDe f\u00f8rste bilene ble kun levert i s\u00f8lv eller r\u00f8d lakk, senere ble flere farger tilgjengelig. Kanskje ogs\u00e5 Renault 5 Alpine? Ved hjelp at Oettinger kunne Volkswagen levere en oppgradert GTI med 136 hesters 16-ventilers motor og oppgradert understell. Modellen skulle v\u00e6re et supplement til den ordin\u00e6re 110 hesters utgaven og ble produsert i kun 1250 eksemplarer. Det var et tilstrekkelig antall til \u00e5 komme p\u00e5 f\u00f8rstesidene av franske bilmagasiner og vinne dueller i bilpressen, &#8211; men langt fra tilstrekkelig til \u00e5  dekke
