Selv om flere konkurrenter gikk over til avrundede karosseriformer, sto BX frem som en moderne og flott bil, takket v\u00e6re designfirmet Bertone. Det flotte designet var tidligere tiltenkt <em>Volvo Tundra<\/em> &#8211; en konseptbil som aldri ble satt i produksjon. Bertone benyttet design-konseptet i stedet til Citroen sitt nye prosjekt. Citroen BX 17 TD stasjonsvogn ble en popul\u00e6r familiebil over hele Europa. Fra modell\u00e5r 1987 kom den i en oppgradert versjon &#8211; &laquo;phase 2&raquo;. De st\u00f8rste endringene ble gjort p\u00e5 instrumentpanelet hvor siste rest av GS\/GSA ble fjernet, som  bryter-clusteret p\u00e5 begge sider av rattet, klokkene og rikere padding p\u00e5 rattet.
