Den f\u00f8rste fra v\u00e5ren 1961 til desember 1967. F\u00f8rst med 3,8 liters rekkesekser, &#8211; den samme som satt i XK150 og i Mark 2. Fra oktober 1964 ble 3,8-litersmotoren erstattet men en ny 4,2-liter rekkesekser. De to modellene hadde samme ytelser, men 4,2-literen hadde bedre bunndrag. B\u00e5de 3,8 og 4,2 ble levert som Open Two Seater og Fixed Head Coupe. Fra 1966 ble 4,2 ogs\u00e5 levert som Two-Plus-Two. Den fikk litt lenger akselavstand og et lite baksete og litt h\u00f8yere taklinje. Two-Plus-Two ble produsert frem til september 1973, og Open Two Seater frem til februar 1975. Begge modellene fikk en helt ny V12 p\u00e5 5,3 liter som eneste motorvalg. Endringene for serie 3 besto av utvidede hjulbuer for bredere hjul, forlenget akselavstand, ny st\u00f8rre grill og ekstra luftinntak under grillen, 4 ender\u00f8r og nytt interi\u00f8r.
