Den underbitte fronten med st\u00f8tfangere av plast og kombil\u00f8sning med 3 d\u00f8rer og nedfellbare seter. Renault var 5 \u00e5r forut for Ford Fiesta og 10 \u00e5r f\u00f8r Opel Corsa.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Ungdommelig og vennlig<\/h3>\n<p>Det nye konseptet handlet ikke bare om praktiske egenskaper som en liten bil med bakd\u00f8r er &#8211; det handlet ogs\u00e5 om en stil som passet unge kj\u00f8pere. P\u00e5 70- og 80-tallet kunne en s\u00e5nn bil fungere som familiebil for sm\u00e5 familier. Mye handlet om riktig reklame. Markedsfolkene skapte et inntrykk av en bilmodell som var myk og vennlig. Hittil hadde unge kj\u00f8pere blitt fristet av de sm\u00e5 kombibilene Renault 4 og Renault 6. De er vel s\u00e5 praktiske, men appellerte ikke like bra til de unge. En annen konkurrent var Peugeot 104. Den velkjente 850 cc motoren med 34 hester og paraplygir &#8211; hvor det paraplyformede h\u00e5ndtaket g\u00e5r rett gjennom dashbordet. Til forskjell fra nyere biler, var motoren da langsstilt. Etter hvert ble det 1-liters motor med 44 hester og gulvgir som ble volummodellen. I dag er tidlige biler med paraplygir sjeldne. \u00d8vrige motoralternativer var R5 LS med 1,3 motoren fra Renault 12 og senere varianter med 1,4-motoren fra Renault 11 &#8211; herunder R5 Opprinnelig ble det laget en R5 Turbo for rallysport. Det var ikke bare <em>turbo<\/em> som gjorde susen, men ogs\u00e5 at motoren ble plassert midtplassert bak, med breddet bakvogn for bedre drag og veigrep. Den 1,4 liter turbomotoren leverte 158 HK som ga en akselerasjon p\u00e5 6,5 sekunder. R5 Turbo ble produsert i flere versjoner. Den f\u00f8rste for \u00e5 homologisere serien, den andre R5 Turbo 2, senere i modellprogrammet. Det ble ogs\u00e5 produsert Renault R5 med frontmontert motor, men til tross for at det er samme motor, er prisene ikke p\u00e5 langt n\u00e6r hva R5 Turbo (1) g\u00e5r for &#8211; de g\u00e5r nemlig
