De f\u00f8rste 911-seriene ble angitt med bokstaver. For \u00e5rsmodell 1970 var Porsche kommet til C-modellen som hadde f\u00e5tt 2.2 liters motor og forlenget akselavstand. Fra \u00e5rsmodell 1972 (E-modellen) fikk motorene \u00f8kt slagvolum til 2.4 liter. Fra 1974 kom G-modellen som skulle bli produsert helt til slutten av 1980-\u00e5rene. I denne tiden beholdt bilene i store trekk det samme designet &#8211; mens teknologien ble endret l\u00f8pende.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI 1974 ble motorene \u00f8kt til 2.7 liter. Det ble ogs\u00e5 laget et begrenset antall RS-modeller fra 1973 med 2.8 liters motorer. De ulike motoralternativene fikk ble ogs\u00e5 angitt med bokstaver &#8211; som 911E (2.2 liter), 911S (2.2 liter med mekanisk injection) og 911T (2.4 liter).<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Visuelle trekk<\/h3>\n<p>Det er vanskelig \u00e5 skille ulike \u00e5rsmodeller fra hverandre. Ett trekk kan v\u00e6re st\u00f8tfangerne som fikk en  liten spoiler-leppe foran fra modell\u00e5r 1973. I l\u00f8pet av bilenes levetid har nok flere f\u00e5tt byttet st\u00f8tfangere &#8211; og noen har ogs\u00e5 f\u00f8rt nyere modeller visuelt tilbake til tidlige modeller, s\u00e5kalt &laquo;backdated&raquo;.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nEn av de mest markante Porsche&#8217;ne p\u00e5 1970-tallet var 930 med 3.0 liters motorer med Turbo &#8211; og utvendig en karakteristisk spoiler som kjennetegner Porsche Turbo.
