Jeg satt i en drosje og det var sj\u00e5f\u00f8ren som s\u00e5 den f\u00f8rst. Det var som \u00e5 se en bil fra en annen planet. Lav og bred med spoilerleppe foran, store glassflater og snorrette linjer som en forlengelse av 70-tallet. Det var luksusutgaven 760 GLE som ble introdusert f\u00f8rst. En sinnssyk dyr bil og et klart steg oppover p\u00e5 statusstigen. Men Volvo hadde ikke kopiert andre modeller &#8211; eller tidstypiske trender. Det var p\u00e5 alle m\u00e5ter en Volvo &#8211; b\u00e5de utvendig og innvendig, r\u00f8dlakkerte langsstilte motorer med drift p\u00e5 bakhjulene &#8211; og stiv bakaksel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br et halvt \u00e5r f\u00f8r 740 kom i handel tidlig 1984. Det var ingen tvil om at dette skulle bli modellen som etter hvert kunne avl\u00f8se 240-serien, skj\u00f8nt de to modellene gikk ut av produksjon omtrent samtidig. Forholdet mellom 740 og 760 ble omtrent som 240 og 260. 760 var alene om \u00e5 kunne leveres med V6-motorer, men ogs\u00e5 B230-motorer den delte med b\u00e5de 740 og 240. Krom, skinn og luksus var ogs\u00e5 noe som lokket kunder. Men det var 740 som ble Svenssons dr\u00f8mmebil. Om jeg ikke husker feil, kostet 740 i 1988 fra ca 135 000 SEK i Sverige, mens den kostet i underkant av 270 000 NOK i Norge. Min svenske kollega hadde en 1984 740 sedan &#8211; en meget komfortabel langturbil med elektrisk overdrive. Herreg\u00e5rdsvogna av 740 dukket f\u00f8rste gang opp som 1986-modell. Modellene fikk en facelift i 1990 med synlige endringer som ny front med smalere frontlys og grill, samt mindre endringer av dashboardet. 1991 skulle bli det siste modell\u00e5ret for 700-serien. For modell\u00e5ret 1992 kom 940 og 960, som helt klart var en videref\u00f8ring av 700-serien.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_76521\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-76521\"
