Bilen som hang p\u00e5 alle gutterom, James Bond-bilen og bilene som  ble foretrukket av britiske playboys bosatt i Monaco.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Sannheten er likevel ikke til \u00e5 komme unna. Under det h\u00e5ndlagde glassfiberkarosseriet skjuler det seg en gammel bil, teknologisk low-tech etter dagens standard. Jeg h\u00f8rte en eier uttale at <em>&laquo;du kj\u00f8per ikke en Esprit p\u00e5 grunn av ytelser og kj\u00f8reglede &#8211; du kj\u00f8per den fordi det er en Esprit&raquo;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Motorisering<\/h3>\n<p>Esprit-modellen ble produsert i flere serier fra 1976 til 2004. Den f\u00f8rste serien var utstyrt med midtplassert 2,0, senere i serie 2 med 2,2-liters rekkefirer-motorer utviklet av Lotus selv. Ytelsene var beskjedne 160 HK. Esprit var vel egentlig ingen superbil f\u00f8r 1980 da den fikk turbo, t\u00f8rrsump og 210 HK. Senere, fra 1986 fikk motorene en effekt\u00f8kning &#8211; 170 HK og 215 i turboversjon. Etter hvert greidde Lotus \u00e5 ta ut 300 HK fra turbomotoren. I 1996 &#8211; tyve \u00e5r etter introduksjonen &#8211; fikk Esprit V8-motorer. Twin-turbo-motoren ga 350 hester og l\u00f8ftet Esprit opp i superbil-klassen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71387\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71387\" style=\"width:
