Den oppn\u00e5dde en viss popularitet under jappetiden p\u00e5 80-tallet. En bil for de som syntes tyske biler ble for kjedelig. BiTurbo var den f\u00f8rste modellen som ble produsert med twin-turbo V6. Produksjonen skjedde i en turbulent periode i selskapets historie, og det ble meldt om ganske mange feil ved bilene. Det kan nok tenkes at disse bilene fikk et bedre liv som entusiastbiler (n\u00e5 veteraner) enn leket\u00f8y for japper. Uansett ser de fantastiske ut, og l\u00e5ter skikkelig bra. Fra modell\u00e5ret 1986 kom biler med elektronisk bensininnspr\u00f8yting. Disse modellene fikk en &laquo;i&raquo; i modellbetegnelsen. Maserati 2,0 liter V6 biturbo ga i standardversjon 180 HK med forgasser og 188 HK med innspr\u00f8yting. 2,0 liter &laquo;S&raquo; ga 205 HK med forgasser og 220 HK med innspr\u00f8yting. Det fantes ogs\u00e5 en 2,5 liter V6 med forgasser. Den var merket &laquo;E&raquo; og hadde 185 HK som standard og 205 HK som &laquo;SE&raquo;. Biturbo ble ogs\u00e5 levert med 2,8 liter V6 som yter 225 HK (innspr\u00f8yting og katalysator).
