Mondial delte drivverk med disse etter som de dukket opp.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">En ekte sportsbil?<\/h3>\n<p>Det er ingen lett oppgave \u00e5 lage en sportsbil som b\u00e5de har midtplassert motor bak <em>og<\/em> baksete. Riktignok dreier det seg kun om en 2+2 l\u00f8sning, men til Ferrari \u00e5 v\u00e6re ganske store glassflater og h\u00f8yt tak. De f\u00f8rste modellene ble produsert parallelt med Ferrari 308. Sammenlignet med 308 har Mondial 31 cm lengre akselavstand og veier 170 kg mer. Bilene n\u00e5dde ikke opp til sine rendyrkede sportsbilmodeller med hensyn til ytelser. Den f\u00f8rste versjonen av Mondial brukte 9,2 sekunder fra 0-60 mph. Ferrari 308 gjorde det p\u00e5 6,1 sekunder. Toppfarten til Mondial var 220 km\/t, mens Ferrari 308 greidde 252 km\/t. Mondial fikk ogs\u00e5 kritikk for designet. Mange syntes at glasshuset og kup\u00e9en gjorde bilen lite smekker. Fra 1983 modell fikk Mondial og Ferrari 308 begge 4 ventiler pr sylinder, Quattrovalvole &#8211; eller bare QV. Den f\u00f8rste facelift kom i 1985 (for 1986-modellen). Modellen fikk da samme 3.2 liters V8 som den da helt nye Ferrari 328, og frontpartiet fikk en lav grill. Senere, i 1989 (for 1990-modellen), ble Mondiale oppgradert med samme 3.4 liters V8 som kom i Ferrari 348.
