Hvordan kunne den v\u00e6re popul\u00e6r s\u00e5 lenge?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Saab 96 ble produsert mellom 1960 og 1979. Designet stammet fra et konsept utviklet like etter krigen. Det er utrolig at karosseriformen fra 40-tallet kunne holde seg popul\u00e6rt s\u00e5 lenge. Populariteten skyldtes trolig Saabs nordiske opphav og bilenes vinteregenskaper &#8211; godt hjulpet av merittene fra rally-l\u00f8ypene.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Modellhistorikk<\/h3>\n<p>Saab 96 begynte med den s\u00e5kalte trubbnosen (butt nese). For modell\u00e5ret fikk den en ny, forlenget front, &#8211; kalt l\u00e5ngnos (lang nese). Det gjorde det mulig \u00e5 flytte radiatoren frem for \u00e5 gi bedre kj\u00f8ling. Fra modell\u00e5ret 1967 ble den 850 ccm 3-sylindrede totakteren byttet ut med en 1.5-liters V4 fra Ford. Den ga 69 HK &#8211; et stort sprang fra tidligere 45 HK. Dessuten ga V4&#8217;en en heftig lyd i Saab&#8217;en, spesielt i rally-l\u00f8ypene. I modell\u00e5ret 1968 fikk Saab st\u00f8rre frontrute. I 1970 fikk den atter ny front, f\u00f8rste \u00e5ret med kvadratiske hovedlys, &#8211; deretter s\u00e5nn som den bl\u00e5 bilen p\u00e5 bildene. I 1974 ble den blanke grillen og byttet med plastikk, nye hovedlys og nye st\u00f8tfangerhorn. I 1976 fikk modellen de store paddete st\u00f8tfangere &#8211; som i mine \u00f8yne s\u00e5 ut som badeplattformer. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Varianter<\/h3>\n<p>Saab 96 stasjonsvogn ble kalt Saab 95. Den har 2 d\u00f8rer, bakluke og et bakovervendt klappsete som kan romme 2 ekstra passasjerer. Dermed kan bilene bli registret som 7-setere.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAv varianter finnes ogs\u00e5 betegnelser som <em>Sport 850<\/em> og <em>Montecarlo 850<\/em>. Disse variantene fulgte \u00e5rsmodeller med 2-taktsmotorer fra 1962 til 1965 for Sport, og senere fra 1966 til 1968 for Montecarlo. I 1967 og 1968 kunne kundene velge mellom 2-taktsmotor eller V4. De fleste valgte V4. Sport 850 ga ekstra krefter gjennom 3 Solex-forgasser &#8211; \u00e9n p\u00e5 hver sylinder. Skivebremser foran var ogs\u00e5 med i pakken, inntil det ble standard p\u00e5 alle bilene i 1967. Den ble benyttet som familiebil. Men etter som han hadde behov for \u00e5 kj\u00f8re over 40 tusen km i \u00e5ret i embeds medf\u00f8r, holdt ikke totakts-motoren. Han hadde derfor firmabil (Ford M) i den tiden. En av firmabilene var en 1970 Ford 12M 1500 V4 med forhjulsdrift &#8211; samme motor som Saab 96 fikk fra \u00e5rsmodell 1967. Da faren min skulle kj\u00f8pe ny bil i 1974, var valget enkelt. Det m\u00e5tte bli en Saab V4. Ekstrautstyr var Blaupunkt radio montert i lokket til hanskerommet og nakkest\u00f8tter uten puter. Jeg kan ikke si at jeg elsket Saab&#8217;en, akkurat. Jeg syntes den begynte \u00e5 se gammel ut (selv om den var ny) og at den hadde en del s\u00e6re trekk. I 1974 var ikke rattgir s\u00e6rlig kult. Det tynne rattet var heller ikke noe \u00e5 rope hurra for. Jeg m\u00e5tte bruke all kraft jeg hadde, for \u00e5 ratte den rundt p\u00e5 parkeringsplasser. Faren min tipset meg om at man ikke fikk dreie p\u00e5 rattet mens bilen sto stille. N\u00e5r hjulene er bevegelse, er det mye lettere \u00e5 dreie p\u00e5 rattet, &#8211; og ikke minst, vil komponentene i styringen holde lenger. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Saab 96 p\u00e5 veien<\/h3>\n<p>Saab 96 var ingen stor bil, men vel tilpasset h\u00f8ye personer som faren min og meg. Setene og sitteposisjonen var ok, skj\u00f8nt det kreves litt tilvenning at pedalene satt ganske langt mot h\u00f8yre. Man satt litt p\u00e5 skr\u00e5 mens man kj\u00f8rte. Jeg likte at bilen tok seg godt frem p\u00e5 vinterveier med smale piggdekk. Jeg ble aldri helt fortrolig med forhjulsdriften. I f\u00f8lge fadern var det bare \u00e5 gi gass ut av svingen, s\u00e5 fulgte resten av bilen med, &#8211; men jeg f\u00f8lte meg aldri sikker p\u00e5 hvor grensen var. N\u00e5r det ikke var mer \u00e5 gi, eller underlaget ikke ville gi feste, &#8211; understyrte bilen og ville dra rett til skogs. Skj\u00f8nt Saabs ber\u00f8mte rallyf\u00f8rer Erik Carlsson havnet jo nesten alltid p\u00e5 taket n\u00e5r det gikk for fort &#8211; ikke ut i skogen.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">V4 og frihjul<\/h3>\n<p>Av og til savner jeg lyden av V4&#8217;en. Da finner jeg en eller annen film tatt med dashbord-kamera p\u00e5 Youtube fra ett eller annet skogsrally. Det er herlig \u00e5 h\u00f8re V4 i fri utfoldelse menes grusen hagler inn i understellet.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nJeg savner ogs\u00e5 frihjulet. Faren min utnyttet frihjulet maksimalt og sparte bensin, dessuten kunne man gire med varsom h\u00e5nd kun ved \u00e5 gi mellomgass &#8211; uten kl\u00f8tsj. Med litt trening var det enkelt \u00e5 finne det punktet p\u00e5 turtallet hvor clutch-l\u00f8s giring var mulig. En gang sviktet overf\u00f8ringen til kl\u00f8tsjen s\u00e5nn at den ikke kunne brukes. Da ble det full stans langs veien. En mekaniker fra Vestfold Auto kj\u00f8rte da bilen probleml\u00f8st en mils vei til forhandleren totalt uten kl\u00f8tsj!<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nUnder oppl\u00e6ring m\u00e5tte jeg kj\u00f8re <em>uten<\/em> frihjul for ikke \u00e5 tilegne meg unoter.
