Opprinnelig ble prosjektet introdusert som <em>nye<\/em> GT40, men det lot seg ikke s\u00e5 enkelt realisere, da rettighetene til GT40 var solgt. I dag eies modellnavnet av Safir Engineering, firmaet som fortsatte \u00e5 produsere Ford GT40 MkV etter at produksjonen hos Ford opph\u00f8rte i 1969. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Kunne blitt Ford GT44<\/h3>\n<p>Den opprinnelige GT40 fikk sitt navn fordi det var eksakt 40 tommer fra bakken opp til toppen av frontruten. P\u00e5 den nye modellen er tilsvarende h\u00f8yde 44 tommer. Det ble besluttet at nye Ford GT40 skulle hete Ford GT. Enkelt og greit. To av dem er avbildet her. Generelt var det mye blest om bilen da dem kom, og lang venteliste. En av kj\u00f8perne var ingen ringere enn Jeremy Clarkson fra Top Gear. Med tanke p\u00e5 den h\u00f8ye populariteten er det merkelig at Ford valgte \u00e5 avslutte produksjonen etter bare 2 \u00e5r i produksjon (modell\u00e5rene 2005 og 2006). Kanskje Jeremy Clarkson bidro til at modellen ble stanset tidlig.
