For oss ble det en modell som plasserte Audi i premiumklassen. Det var en ordentlig sjefsbil, &#8211; men ogs\u00e5 som performance car med 2,2 turbo-motoren. I USA ble C3, i likhet med forgjengeren C2, solgt som Audi 5000. Der vil C3 for alltid bli husket som Audi&#8217;en som akselererte av seg selv. I l\u00f8pet av karrieren for\u00e5rsaket modellen 6 d\u00f8dsfall og mer enn 700 ulykker p\u00e5 grunn av at den dro avg\u00e5rde for &laquo;full throttle&raquo; med skrekkslagne mennesker ombord. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Ingen teknisk feil p\u00e5vist<\/h3>\n<p>Det ble aldri funnet noen egentlig forklaring &#8211; eller beviselig feil fra Audi sin side. Audi skyldte p\u00e5 at dette var menneskelige feil for\u00e5rsaket av mennesker som ikke var kjent med Audi &#8211; eller europeiske biler. Den forklaring som er mest troverdig, er at elektronikken som styrer tomgangshastigheten, ofte \u00f8kte turtallet en tanke etter oppstart. Det kunne skape en initiell akselerasjon hvis bilen gikk p\u00e5 tomgang i &laquo;Drive&raquo;. Det lille puffet kunne gi uerfarne sj\u00e5f\u00f8rer panikk s\u00e5nn at han eller hun tr\u00e5kket p\u00e5 feil pedal. Audi hevdet at det var folk med lav h\u00f8yde som var mest utsatt. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Det var s\u00e5nn det skjedde<\/h3>\n<p>Scenariet er at bilen st\u00e5r i &laquo;Park&raquo;. Sj\u00e5f\u00f8ren skifter til &laquo;Drive&raquo; og lar bilen rulle d\u00f8sig i fart uten \u00e5 ha noen fot i n\u00e6rheten av pedalene. N\u00e5r elektronikken i bilen automatisk justerer tomgangsturtallet litt opp, skyter bilen litt fart &#8211; helt ubetydelig &#8211; men sj\u00e5f\u00f8ren, som ikke har bremsefoten i n\u00e6rheten av pedalene, f\u00e5r &laquo;hetta&raquo;, planter foten inn i d\u00f8rken, treffer gassen i stedet for bremsen. Sj\u00e5f\u00f8ren, som tror at bilen er i ferd med \u00e5 akselerere p\u00e5 egen h\u00e5nd, mistolker signalene. Han\/hun tror at bilen bare fortsetter \u00e5 akselerere til tross for at &#8211; det de tror er bremsen, &#8211; er trykket helt i bunn &#8230;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">Fiks og facelift<\/h3>\n<p>Audis offisielle l\u00f8sning var \u00e5 lage en fysisk sperre som blokkerte muligheten til \u00e5 ta bilen ut av &laquo;Park&raquo; uten \u00e5 holde foten p\u00e5 bremsen, en s\u00e5kalt &laquo;Automatic Shift Lock&raquo; som ble innf\u00f8rt i 1987 p\u00e5 alle Audi&#8217;er med automatgir, ogs\u00e5 i Norge. I dag er det standard p\u00e5 alle biler med automatgir. Audi flyttet ogs\u00e5 litt p\u00e5 pedalene for \u00e5 gj\u00f8re det lettere \u00e5 treffe bremsen i stedet for gassen ved panikk. Men Audi 5000 ble for ever et &laquo;lost case&raquo; p\u00e5 USA-markedet.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nC3 fikk en mild facelift i 1987. En av de synlige endringene er at den nye modellen fikk innfelte d\u00f8rh\u00e5ndtak.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22479\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22479\"
