Enkelte mener at S-Type ble utviklet som en etterf\u00f8lger etter Mk2. P\u00e5 den tiden var ogs\u00e5 E-Type med i modellprogrammet. S-Type fikk litt fra alle modellene. Treverket i interi\u00f8ret er av litt h\u00f8yere klasse. Den hadde bedre komfort, to bensintanker og to separate eksosr\u00f8r. Den hadde et mer p\u00e5kostet understell som ga bedre veigrep. I tillegg m\u00e5lte den 16 cm mer i lengden til tross for at akselavstanden er den samme. Mk2 var imidlertid raskere p\u00e5 grunn av lettere vekt. Den regnes ogs\u00e5 som vakrere enn S-Type, f\u00f8rst og fremst rundt de bakre hjulbuene og sitt mer kompakte bakstykke. Her m\u00e5 vi tilf\u00f8ye at vurderingen av bilenes design sannsynligvis har endret seg fra 1960-\u00e5rene til i dag.
