Modellen ble levert med GM&#8217;s 350 (5,7 liter) small-block V8 &#8211; dog i flere varianter gjennom produksjonstiden. Rent visuelt virker C4 st\u00f8rre enn forgjengeren, men det er et synsbedrag. Den er nemlig 13 cm <em>kortere<\/em> enn C3 &#8211; og har 4,5 cm kortere akselavstand. Corvette C4 er imidlertid bredere. At C4 virker st\u00f8rre enn C3 kan skyldes de enkle, rette linjene og den kileformede fasongen. C4 fulgte ikke forgjengernes oppbygning med glassfiberplater p\u00e5 st\u00e5lr\u00f8rsramme. C4 fikk helt nytt chassis, og det kun taket som er laget av glassfiber. Resten av karosseriet er st\u00f8pt av glassfiberarmert st\u00f8peplast. Det ble laget tre karosseriformer &#8211; Targa, Convertible og Hardtop. Convertible-varianten kom i 1986. Da fikk modellen ogs\u00e5 et tredje bremselys. I 1989 kunne man f\u00e5 C4 Corvette med en hardtop som ga \u00f8kt stivhet til karosseriet. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"tebh2\">ZR1 &#8211; samarbeid med Lotus<\/h3>\n<p>Da GM kj\u00f8pte britiske Lotus, fikk de tilgang til velkvalifiserte teknikere. Disse fikk i oppgave \u00e5 lage en spesialmodell av C4, kalt ZR1. M\u00e5let var \u00e5 oppn\u00e5 banebrytende resultater gjennom vektreduksjon, trimming og forbedring.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48066\" class=\"tebh2ingreslbcenter\">1991-facelift<\/h3>\n<p>Det ble gjort flere endringer og forbedringer gjennom modell\u00e5rene. Flest visuelle endringer kom for modell\u00e5ret 1991 med litt rundere former, nye felger og pyntelister i lakkfargen. Det ble gjort endringer i fronten med blant annet blinklys som krummet seg rundt hj\u00f8rnene, bakenden ble mer avrundet og fikk nye mer firkantede baklys.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAndre endringer som det er verdt \u00e5 vite, er at bilene fikk 6-trinns manuelle girkasser fra 1989.
